PRODUCTS - PALM KERNEL SHELL (PKS)

palm-kernel-shell.webp

A palm kernel shell is the remnant of the shell of the nuts left after crushing the nuts in the palm oil mill. It consist of large and small shell fractions that mixed together with dust-like fractions, and small fibres.

Since PKS contains palm oil residue, therefore, it will contribute to its heating value which is slightly higher than the average lignocellulosic biomass.

PKS can be used as an alternative fuel for biomass-based combined heat and power plants to produce heat and power. PKS are a good biomass fuel alternative, since they have a uniform size distribution, are easy to handle, are easy to crush, and only have a limited amount of biological activity due to their low moisture content compared to other residues from the industry.

Besides, PKS are fibrous and easy to handle in bulk from the production line to the end use.
